This design was realized in 1998 due to the fact that Fighter Bomber Wing 31 "B" had it's 40th anniversary that year.
It shows a dark blue basic colour with white stars on it. That was the reason it got it's nickname "Milky Way" later on.

The badge of both squadrons can be found on the intakes whereas the tail shows the different type of aircraft flown in Nörvenich. This thematic ´was repeated on other aircraft in the future, e.g. the Tornado "Pride of Boelcke" in 2008 for the 50th anniversary of the wing.
